2+2 Classroom/Coaching Observation

The other day I was remembering how much fun we had my first year at my current school.  One thing that stood out to me was a time when our principal would take a grade level with her while completing her 5x5 walk through observations (a part of Max Thompson's Learning Focused).  We had so much fun and enjoyed seeing what other teachers were doing in their classrooms.
Fast forward two years and we are entirely too busy to be involved with these observations!  I, for one, really miss having this time in other teacher's classrooms.  We gained such valuable insight from one another, which is non-existent today.
Using information from my Graduate class, Assessment and Improvement of Instruction, I presented information to my principal for a voluntary coaching opportunity for teachers to participate in.  She was excited at the prospect and wanted me to present it to the School Improvement Team.  I presented the possibility of using a 2 Complement & 2 Suggestion Observation on a voluntary basis among the teachers at our school.  Teachers could sign up to observe each other in a coaching model.  The observation can be used as a piece of evidence toward our North Carolina Teacher Evaluation System.  The individual teacher can choose to share the observation with our principal if they want to, or they can choose to ignore it completely if it wasn't beneficial to them.  Either way, it opens the doors of communication among our teaching staff about the teaching that is going on in our school.
